Saw 10, officially titled Saw X, is set to horrify audiences later this year – here’s everything we know about the movie so far, from its release date and trailer to cast details, plot, and more.
Everything all started with 2004’s Saw – a gruesome psychological horror that, at the time, became the most profitable film of its genre after 1996’s Scream. And just like Scream, the movie birthed a billion-dollar franchise, while also giving us a modern horror icon in the shape of Jigsaw.
Since then, Saw has enjoyed six sequels and two spinoffs. And while the quality has been questionable, time and time again, moviegoers nonetheless flock to cinemas on the promise of traps, gore, and twists.
For fans dying to play another game, there’s good news: Saw X is happening, so here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming sequel, including its release date, cast, plot, and more.

Saw X release date: When is Saw 10 coming out?
Saw 10 will be released on September 29, 2023.
While an initial date of October 27 was revealed earlier this year, the 10th entry in the series has since been pushed forward. It’s now set to hit theaters worldwide a full month ahead of schedule.
It will be directed by Kevin Greutert, who earlier directed Saw VI and Saw 3D, also known as Saw: The Final Chapter. The former received the best reviews since the original, but made the least money, while the latter wasn’t the epic send-off teased from the outset.
This release date will also mean that Saw 10 is dropping the same day as the next Paw Patrol movie.
Saw 10 officially titled Saw X
The 10th installment in the Saw franchise is officially called Saw X.
Lionsgate’s new logo for the movie, which shows the title in the franchise’s characteristically grimy, scratched-out front, was revealed at CinemaCon 2023 and shared by Collider.
Saw X cast: Is Jigsaw in Saw 10, and who else is set to appear?
Tobin Bell, the original Jigsaw, will return for Saw 10. Fans were treated to the first official look at Bell’s return on July 21, when Saw’s social channels gave us our first screenshot from the upcoming sequel.
As per One Take News, producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said: “What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”
Shawnee Smith, who played Amanda in the first three Saw movies (she also appeared in archive footage in the other installments), will also return.
As Spiral is considered a spinoff, it’s unlikely we’ll see Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, or Max Minghella. However, it wouldn’t be too wild to anticipate the return of Cary Elwes as Dr. Lawrence Gordon.
Other actors who have been confirmed for the cast in currently undisclosed roles include:

Saw 10 plot details: What is Saw X about?
The official synopsis reads: “Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable.
“Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.”
As reported early into the film’s development and later confirmed by the production studio, Saw X is set to take place between Saw and Saw II. Fans can rest assured this in-between chapter will follow another grisly tale of John ‘Jigsaw’ Kramer.
As we know, the iconic and bloodthirsty killer was battling terminal cancer. Saw X will see Jigsaw traveling to Mexico in hopes an experimental procedure may cure him. Before long, however, the operation is proven to be a hoax, leading him to another elaborately grotesque murder spree on the scammers.
As per Bloody Disgusting’s report, “fans can be assured that the new film will capture their hearts – and other body parts – with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve.”
Lionsgate, meanwhile, teased: “The return of Tobin Bell to the franchise furthers Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ goal of a film that captures everything Saw fans love about the franchise, while also keeping them guessing with all-new traps and a new mystery to solve.”
In a statement, Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said: “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love.
“And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series. More details will be revealed soon.”
Given the disappointing reception towards Jigsaw and Spiral, with the former expanding Jigsaw’s origins while the latter took place years after the “final chapter,” it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a return where Saw 3D ended. Spoiler warning for the Saw franchise…
After watching Matt Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) wreak havoc for several movies, The Final Chapter concluded with him being caught by a secret third apprentice: Dr. Lawrence Gordon, who left him for dead in the same bathroom from the first movie.
