Not quite ready for Young Sheldon to end? Here are five shows we’d recommend you watch if you want to stay in the Sheldon-verse.
Young Sheldon isn’t quite so young anymore, with its seventh and final season wrapping up by mid-May this year. Now that the genius Cooper child is all grown up, fans are watching him fly the nest toward higher education in Germany, with mother Mary in tow.
Even with only a few episodes left, Young Sheldon still has plenty of plot points to bring to a close, such as George’s impending death and Georgie and Mandy’s possible married life. On top of this, the series looks to introduce reasoning for decades-old lore, such as Sheldon’s infamous three knocks.
If the news that Young Sheldon is finally coming to an end is too much to bear, here are five shows that could make this painful transition period a whole lot easier.
Shows to watch if you like Young Sheldon
In case you’ve jumped the gun and started watching Young Sheldon from its current Season 7, we’ve got you covered on that front too — Seasons 1-6 are currently available to stream on both Netflix and Max.
If you’re all caught up, read on for even more shows that you should be watching.
The Middle
Long before the Coopers, there was the Hecks, fronting one of the more underrated sitcoms in recent years. The Middle, which originally streamed on ABC from 2009-2018, followed Frankie, Mike, Axel, Sue, and Brick through their unconventional day-to-day lives as a working-class family. Youngest child Brick has unique similarities to Sheldon, while the struggle of getting by on not much money is something shared by both families. It’s harmless, light-hearted fun, so if you aren’t watching… what the Heck?

Raising Hope
Another family comedy caper that has more onus on the adults, Raising Hope follows a young man who has the responsibility of raising his infant daughter after the mother he had a one-night-stand with gets sentenced and executed. “Raising Hope is such a good show that I never hear people talk about,” one fan mused on Reddit. “It’s a show that (to me) is a rare combination of being wholesome and hilarious.” Remind you of anyone?

Fuller House
Technically, Fuller House is a sequel spinoff to its 1987 origin Full House, but the commercial compatibility with Young Sheldon is present nonetheless. Keeping the action in-house — as the name suggests — the story picks up with D.J., now a widow and a mother to three sons, who finds herself back in her childhood home alongside her sister Stephanie and lifelong friend Kimmy Gibbler. It’s a case of trying to figure out parenting as you go, something Mary and George are constantly tasked with.

8 Simple Rules
Fans might recognize a familiar face in 8 Simple Rules, with Big Bang Theory actress Hayley Cuoco taking up the role of Bridget five years prior to the sitcom. First released in 2002, the Hennessy family — Cate, Bridget, Kerry, and Rory — look to one another for guidance and support after the death of husband and dad Paul. That might sound less cheery than it seems, but the death of the family patriarch isn’t something Young Sheldon shies away from either.
Where to watch: Disney Plus
The Big Bang Theory
We couldn’t write this list without including the OG series The Big Bang Theory — which if you didn’t know, is the entire season Young Sheldon exists at all. Fans first met Sheldon as an adult back in 2007, living with three socially awkward friends, Leonard, Howard, and Raj, with their lives taking a wild turn when they meet the beautiful and free-spirited Penny. If anything, it’s worth revisiting to try and work out the many inconsistencies with the prequel.
