With The Chosen Season 4 now available to watch, here’s a breakdown of where the show has been filmed so far.
Created by Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen has quietly become one of the biggest shows in the world. Encouraged by the response to the 2017 pilot, a crowdfunding campaign resulted in a historic $11 million haul — making the series the biggest audience-funded project in entertainment history.
Over four seasons, the series has been praised for its authentic depiction of first-century life in the Middle East, thorough production design, and its portrayal of Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie.
With The Chosen Season 4 still making waves, you may be curious to know exactly where the show’s filming takes place — here’s what you need to know about its filming locations.
Season 1 filming locations
The Chosen has mainly been filmed across two locations: Capernaum Studios and Camp Hoblitzelle, both of which are based in Texas.
Seasons 1-2 were filmed at Capernaum Studios, considered to be a premier location for first-century sets and religious projects.
“Our mission at Capernaum Studios is to offer unique film sets, events, and films where people can experience HIStory and encounter God, building a community of faith,” the website reads.
The studio lot includes interior and exterior sets, providing the backdrop for indoor and outdoor life in the Middle East.

Season 2 filming locations
Season 2 also included a replica Jerusalem movie set built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah County, Utah.
This was especially momentous, as it marked the first time the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leased the set to a production with no affiliation to Mormons.

“The opportunity to use this set is once in a lifetime. Every day we film here I’m grateful because there’s just no way that we can re-create this set anywhere else. There’s nothing like it in the world. I mean, you can’t even get this in Israel,” Jenkins told Deseret News.
Season 3 filming locations
Season 3 moved the production to The Salvation Army’s Camp Hoblitzelle, a 1,200-acre camp in Midlothian, Texas.
“We were looking for a place that would be convenient for cast and crew, where we could capture the essence of the Middle Eastern locates where Jesus’ ministry took place,” Brad Pelo, the show’s president, said.
“The Chosen spent millions of dollars constructing a Biblical village set and a 30,000-square-foot soundstage… this new film campus, which was completed in October 2022, not only provides a true-to-history set for the next four seasons of The Chosen, but allows fans of the show to visit the film campus and tour the village and sound stages.”
Season 4 filming locations
Camp Hoblitzvelle is the main filming location for Season 4 — and you can also visit it! Find out more here.
This is also where Season 5 is expected to shoot.
Is any of The Chosen filmed in Israel?
Nope! The Chosen is filmed around Texas and Utah.
The dry, desert-like conditions make it an almost perfect setting for the Middle East, bringing to life the Holy Land with minimal effort.
“Let’s just say the actors don’t have to do a lot of imagining because they are actually in it,” Jenkins said. “It’s all there.”
