Guy Ritchie has returned to the world of The Gentlemen for a new Netflix series – and it looks like beautiful, beautiful TV in its first trailer… which also reveals a major cast member.
The Gentlemen hit cinemas in 2019, coming more than a decade after Ritchie’s last gangster effort with RocknRolla. It was like a greatest hits album for the director: violence, plentiful use of C-U-Next-Tuesdays, cockney accents, and Hugh Grant at its heart with a horny, hilarious performance.
It predominantly followed Raymond (Charlie Hunnam) and his boss Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), a fearsome marijuana dealer looking to sell his empire and break good – or at the very least, leave a life of high-flying crime behind him.
The new Netflix series isn’t quite a sequel, per se – but it is a follow-up with a brand-new, stacked ensemble of big British players… including one star who hasn’t worked with Ritchie until now.
Netflix’s The Gentlemen trailer reveals Ray Winstone
The first teaser trailer for The Gentlemen, scored to The Zombies’ ‘Time of the Season’, introduces us to Theo James’ Ed Horniman and his flashy, baroque lifestyle.
“Do you know what I admire about the British aristocracy? They’re the original gangsters. Your house is a testament to the synthesis of this culture; refinement, with aggression,” Giancarlo Esposito’s character says. “Shall we play or shall we talk?” James’ Ed responds.
We then get quick flashes of what’s to come: high-stakes snooker, blood splattered all over walls, fancy supercars, boxing, and Kaya Scodelario shouting, “F**king yes!”

Crucially, its final shot is a cause for celebration: Ray Winstone working with Guy Ritchie after all these years. The cast also includes Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Chanel Cresswell, Michael Vu, Max Beesley, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Pearce Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz.
The official synopsis reads: “The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire. Moreover, a host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation.
“Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.”
In an earlier statement, Ritchie said: “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me. We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”
