The Gentlemen is one of the most anticipated Netflix shows of the year – here’s its release date, trailer, cast, and plot.
The Gentlemen was a return to form for Ritchie in 2019, starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, and Henry Golding in the sort of sweary crime caper that made him a household name.
The director has since worked on Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and he’s attached to helm the Hercules live-action remake – however, he’s also crafting a rare follow-up on the small screen.
He’ll be returning to the world of The Gentlemen for a new Netflix series – so, here’s what we know so far.

The Gentlemen Netflix series release date
The Gentlemen will premiere on Netflix on March 7, 2024.
Ritchie has co-written the pilot’s script with Matthew Read and will also direct the first two episodes while serving as an executive producer.
In a statement, Ritchie said: “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me.
“I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax, and Moonage we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again. We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”

The Gentlemen Netflix series plot: What’s it about?
The official synopsis reads: “The Gentlemen sees Eddie Horniman unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate – only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire. Moreover, a host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation.
“Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.”
The show is expected to follow the movie as a sequel, rather than retread what we’ve already seen, picking up with a new character in the orbit of The Gentlemen.
In an interview with Empire, Ritchie said: “You’re allowed to tell a lot of story, [which] lends itself to my creative disposition. A lot of it I just write on the day according to who’s there and what feels organic, spontaneous, and fun.
“Once you’ve created [the characters], you feel as though you can roll around in them and enjoy them for a bit longer, rather than just wrapping them up tidily in two hours. I like the world of long form, so I think I will be doing a couple of other things in TV.”
It’s also been reported the new Netflix series will be eight parts in total.
