The Mandalorian & Grogu release date

The Mandalorian & Grogu release date is May 22, 2026. This was locked in by Disney CEO Bob Iger in early 2024.

This will be the next film to hit cinemas ahead of the many other upcoming Star Wars projects.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first big-screen adventure since 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX—The Rise of Skywalker. It will also be the first to release in the May window since 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Most relaunched Disney Star Wars films were released in the holiday season following the success of The Force Awakens.

The movie is set in the New Republic era, specifically around 10-11 ABY, around 22 years before The Force Awakens.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau told starwars.com. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

Cast

Pedro Pascal will return as Mando for the upcoming film. The supporting cast is yet to be confirmed but Zeb and Grogu are also in it.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau directs, and filming began in the summer of 2024 –something fans are happy to hear despite mixed reception to the idea of a Mando & Grogu movie.

Following a report from insider Jeff Sneider, Alien star Sigourney Weaver confirmed to Deadline she would be appearing in the film, though she did not elaborate on her role.

“I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day,” Weaver said. “I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.”

Is there a trailer?

There’s no trailer, but some footage was shown at D23 2024.

The clip showed Grogu in his pod, Mando in full armor, and some dialog.

Mando says, “This youngling is my apprentice. I’m a bounty hunter by trade, now that he is in my care, I’ll be more selective in my assignments.”

How to watch

The Mandalorian & Grogu will get a theatrical run before eventually landing on Disney+.

The movie will be in theatres, however time will tell when it arrives on the streaming service.
