Audrey Hepburn’s biopic has been a highly anticipated movie, but now the director has left the project in the dust.
When it comes to celebrity biopics, there’s been a ton. Some will go down well in cinematic history, such as this year’s Oppenheimer, and some won’t, such as last year’s Blonde.
One biopic that had yet to be judged was the upcoming story of Oscar nominated star Audrey Hepburn. The movie was set to star Rooney Mara, with acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino helming the project.
However, now it seems like the project may not be going forward, as Guadagnino has confirmed that he will no longer be directing it.
Luca Guadagnino has left Audrey Hepburn biopic
During a Q&A session at the BFI London Film Festival, Guadagnino revealed that he would not be associated with the Hepburn film project, which had been in the works with him for since early 2022.
The movie was set to star Rooney Mara as the iconic actress, and be produced by Apple Studios.
Guadagnino, who is known for films such as Call Me By Your Name, expressed his disappointment at this turn of events, praising the script that he would have worked with.

Hepburn is still prime fodder for a biopic, having lived through World War 2, and going on to star in some of the greatest movies of all time, particularly in rom-coms. She was ranked by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest female screen legend from the Classical Hollywood cinema, and was also inducted into the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame List. When retiring from acting, Hepburn then went on to be a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador until she died in 1993.
Will there ever be a Audrey Hepburn biopic?
As of now, any biopic of the star is uncertain.
Now, just because Guadagnino has exited, that doesn’t mean that the project is completely dead. Another director could take his place, as unlikely as that currently seems. With such a big star as Hepburn, no doubt one day we’ll get a cinematic capture of her life.
We will update this article should anything change.
