Horror fans, listen up – a “terrifying” supernatural anthology series with a high Rotten Tomatoes score is coming back for Season 3 after five years.
The anthology format has long been a popular choice within the horror realm, allowing creators the flexibility, creativity, and diversity to explore new stories with the arrival of each new season or episode.
One of the most famous and earliest examples is The Twilight Zone, but more recently, American Horror Story, the rebooted Goosebumps, and Mike Flanagan’s Netflix collection have made waves within the genre.
If you’re a fan of this format, you’ll be pleased to know that a critically acclaimed horror anthology series is being brought back from the dead for a third outing – nearly five years since the last chapter aired.
The Terror is coming back for Season 3
AMC’s horror anthology series The Terror has been renewed for Season 3, with plans for a 2025 release. The new chapter will be subtitled Devil in Silver, and is based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 book of the same name.
The first season, which dropped in 2018, was based on Dan Simmons’s 2007 novel The Terror, telling a fictionalized – and spooky – account of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition. It debuted to strong reviews, earning a respective 94% and 88% from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season 2, titled The Terror: Infamy, arrived in 2019. It takes place during WWII, centering on a Japanese-American community haunted by a series of mysterious deaths. Similarly, the second season received strong reviews, earning 80% from the critics and 65% from audiences.
Fans hailed the “terrifying” show upon its release, with one writing, “Almost done watching season one of The Terror. Hands down one the best series I’ve seen on the small screen. A terrifying, beautifully written masterpiece that resonates with our current terror.”
Season 3 will see LaValle teaming up with Halt and Catch Fire creator Christopher Cantwell to write the six-episode series. Although there are no casting details yet, AMC said (via THR) The Terror: Devil in Silver “tells the story of Pepper – a working-class moving man, who through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget.
“There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets, and perhaps even the very Devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls – but doing so may prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.”
There’s plenty of excitement building about the upcoming chapter. “The first season is an absolute classic. 10/10,” wrote one, while another said, “That’s an excellent book to adapt!” A third added, “I am so excited about this!”
