She’s creepy, she’s kooky, mysterious and spooky, and she’s altogether kooky – and next year, our favorite member of Netflix’s Addams Family will return in Wednesday Season 2.
The first season followed Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday as she navigated the trials and tribulations of being the new girl in high school. It was an extraordinary success, becoming Netflix’s most-watched English-language series in history – yes, it’s even bigger than Stranger Things.
However, it’s been nearly two years since it premiered, and fans are starting to get impatient.
Thankfully, Netflix has just given viewers a big Wednesday Season 2 update, so here’s the lowdown.
Wednesday Season 2 is coming to Netflix in 2025
While Wednesday Season 2 doesn’t have a specific release date, we know it’ll premiere on Netflix in 2025.
Filming kicked off in Ireland earlier in 2024, as reported by Variety. Its production will continue into early 2025 – that’s the price of casting one of the biggest up-and-coming stars in the world as your lead, with Ortega also starring in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this year and working on other projects.
There had also initially been some concern over which streaming platform was going to host the second season, as last year Amazon Prime and MGM signed an $8.5 billion merger, potentially shifting the rights to Wednesday away from Netflix. However, a report from Indiewire confirmed that the show would remain at Netflix.
Netflix drops behind-the-scenes look at Wednesday S2
There’s no trailer for Wednesday Season 2 right now, but Netflix just dropped a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the new season.
“This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine,” Catherine Zeta-Jones says in the video, but don’t expect to find out much. We know Tim Burton has been back on set directing… and that’s about it.
“If we showed you any more your eyes would bleed… and I’m not that generous,” Ortega adds.

One star who will not be returning is Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe, perhaps due to the recent allegations held against him.
Depending on the plot of Season 2, it’s unclear whether or not we will see Marylin Thornhill (Christina Ricci) again as well. Plus, death may not be the end at Nevermore, so who knows, Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) may also return.
There is also a new character set to join Season 2, though details are slim of who it will be. As part of the Netflix TUDUM event, the show’s actors discussed fan theories for Season 2, including new cast members.
According to What’s on Netflix, Wednesday Season 2 will introduce the characters Karloff, Wolfgang, and Annie. It was also revealed the new season will get a new love interest. Bruno is a “Hispanic/Latino teen character who’s a new love interest in the show. Described as having a smoldering look.”
Variety reported that Steve Buscemi would make his debut in Wednesday Season 2 as Nevermore’s new principal. As fans know, Principal Weems met her demise in the series. Or did she?
It was also reported Westworld actor Thandiwe Newton will join the cast for the new season. But her role has been kept under wraps.

Ortega revealed her desire to see Cousin It appear for Season 2, while her co-stars stated that they’d like to see Grandmama appear on the series, so we could imagine that the new role will be either of them.
It is also not yet clear if Tim Burton will return to direct some episodes again. Though we can imagine that the auteur would at least come back in some capacity.
As well as starring in the title role, Ortega will also be a producer for Season 2.
What will happen in Season 2?
While there is currently no official plot for Wednesday Season 2, but we need to get to the bottom of Wednesday’s stalker and Nevermore’s new principal, so expect both these threads to be tied up in Season 2.
Firstly, there’s the nature of who Wednesday’s stalker is. Many assume it to be Xavier, but it could easily be someone else.
The series of course ended with Tyler turning into a Hyde, so he may very well be a problem for Wednesday; he may even attempt to help Marylin Thornhill return.
In regards to Nevermore, it needs a new principal after the death of Larissa Weems – perhaps in the form of Gomez or Morticia? – and it may also need new students. Who knows, Pugsley may even be enrolling at some point.
In a recent video with Variety, star Ortega revealed that the second season would be leaning more into horror, and less into romance: “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more.
“Because it is so light-hearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. [Also] We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.”
Ortega recently doubled down on the claim that Wednesday Season 2 will be more of a horror movie as she told E! during the Emmys red carpet, “I’ve received some scripts now for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror. It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show [Wednesday] never really changes and that’s what’s wonderful about her.”
She continued, “There’s some really good one-liners and I think everything is bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”
The showrunners of Wednesday, Al Gough and Miles Millar, also have plenty of ideas about what to do next. Speaking to TV Line, Millar stated how they wanted to focus more on characters such as Morticia, who had been somewhat side-lined in the series:
“We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles. Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”
Since Ortega will be a producer in the second season, she will have far more control over the course her character takes in the future.
