Set in a distant future, Dune 2 was a sci-fi epic using the breathtaking settings described in Frank Herbert’s books. Bringing his story to life was one of the biggest tasks Denis Villeneuve and Greig Fraser had to do, and once again they nailed it.
It delved into the transformative journey of Paul, from a prince to the prophesized Lisan al-Gaib destined to guide the Fremen to their paradise.
Unique settings served as a stunning backdrop, enriching the narrative. Here’s every Dune 2 filming location that made the new movie a wonder.
Where was Dune 2 filmed?

Dune 2 used many of the same locations as the first Dune, with most scenes taking place on Arrakis. The only difference is that Part 1 included Norway as one of its locations, for the Atreides family‘s homeland of Caladan.
Budapest, Hungary
Budapest served as a major filming hub for Part Two with extensive interior filming at Origo Studios. The city’s versatile locations and state-of-the-art facilities enabled the team to build intricate sets and shoot complex sequences that didn’t need outdoor elements.
The Production design in Dune 2 is one of its greatest boons, and Budapest is where that magic happened.
Wadi Rum, Jordan
The Wadi Rum desert in the southern area of Jordan was used for Arrakis. It’s a World Heritage site famous for its red sandstone mountains and a natural reddish tint.

Its unique geological formations and stark beauty made it an ideal stand-in for the harsh desert landscape.
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Abu Dhabi was also used in the first movie because of its desert terrain. Dune 2 also uses this filming location for the Fremen sietches and its sandy mountains.
Abu Dhabi and Jordan were the main locations to bring the Fremen’s homeland to life. The stark, otherworldly landscapes of the Liwa Desert created an immersive, alien, desert.
Altivole, Treviso, Italy
The production team used the city Altivole in the providence of Treviso, Italy, to showcase the Imperium and the world of the Emperor in Dune 2.
Dune 2 introduced more of the Imperium with Christopher Walken as the Emperor. The location needed is grandiose, with intricate and breathtaking historical beauty.
Altivole is located in the Veneto region and is less well-known. It offered distinctive architecture that provided a unique aesthetic, helping to create the atmosphere around these extremely wealthy characters.
Another location used for the Corrino household was the Memoriale Brione, a tomb in Altivole.
