With the fourth animated movie out, here’s whether there’s been any word on if there will be a Kung Fu Panda 5 to look forward to.
The Kung Fu Panda movies have been a consistent performer for DreamWorks. And it makes sense, they’re delightful.
They’ve released steadily since 2008, with long waits between new movies presumably because of the star-studded cast, who can’t be easy to pin down.
Looking ahead, here’s what has been confirmed or not about a fifth film following the Kung Fu Panda 4 release date.
Will there be a Kung Fu Panda 5?
There has been no DreamWorks confirmation on whether or not Kung Fu Panda 5 will happen. However, Kung Fu Panda 4’s directors said they want to make more movies.
Kung Fu Panda 4’s co-directors said more films are planned after 4. And Stephanie Ma Stine told Variety, “This is definitely not the end of Po’s story. Please look forward to more.”

Considering how long large animated movies take to make, 5 will not be released any time soon. If Kung Fu Panda 4’s box office is healthy though, there will likely be more.
What would the Kung Fu Panda 5 plot be?
If it goes ahead, Po voice actor Jack Black has said he would like Po to become a “spiritual” mentor in Kung Fu Panda 5’s story.
During a GamesRadar interview, Black revealed that he would love to see Po take on a spiritual role similar to Obi-Wan in Star Wars, “I see it as much like, what was his name, in Star Wars? The spiritual leader that passes on to like the new plane? Obi-Wan Kenobi!”
“I think the spiritual leader could be a cool character to explore. Maybe he’ll have the power to levitate and move stuff with his mind. He may have some new powers we haven’t even considered yet. There are lots of rad adventures Po could go on as this new kind of character.”
