Netflix’s Shadow and Bone is a highly-acclaimed adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s YA novel series. After Season 2 was met with mixed reviews, will there be a third season?
Shadow and Bone first came to Netflix in April 2021, bringing Leigh Bardugo’s esteemed YA novel trilogy of the same name, alongside her Six of Crows duology, to life.
Season 1 was met with rave reviews, with fans of the series absolutely thrilled at performances from Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker) and Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), among many others.
The series gave fans of Bardugo’s books a long-awaited journey through the crowded streets of Kerch to the chaos of Ravka and the Fold, blending two of her beloved works into one storyline.
In March 2023, the series’ second season hit screens — but compared to Season 1, Season 2 was met with some reservations from fans who felt that too many storylines were being adapted at once.
Hot off the heels of the Hollywood Writers’ Strike and Actors’ Strikes finally coming to an end, fans are wondering when they’ll be able to see a third season of their favorite characters take to the small screen… but they’re in for a big disappointment.
When is Shadow and Bone Season 3 coming out?
Unfortunately, Netflix has officially canceled Shadow and Bone, along with several other shows. Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall were also axed in November 2023, a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Although Netflix has not given an official reason as to why they decided against moving forward with the show, the performance of Shadow and Bone’s second season, combined with delays in shooting Season 3, likely played a part in their decision.
As told by Deadline, Season 2 spent five weeks in the Top 10 for English-speaking series without ever hitting the number one spot.
Is there a Shadow and Bone spinoff series?
One of the other books set in the Grishaverse is Six of Crows, which follows the antics of Kaz and his gang of Ketterdam friends. As one of the best parts of the first two seasons, these “crows” became fan favorites, and many have speculated that a potential spinoff could focus on them.
While nothing has yet been confirmed, showrunner Eric Heisserer has hinted that a Six of Crows spinoff is in the works, saying that Netflix is “ready to launch that as its own story”.
The series would be set after the events of season 2, and would feature Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) and the rest of the Crows’ adventure to Fjerda.
