Inconsistencies between Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory are well known – but now the prequel has changed a classic story for good.
Young Sheldon Season 7 has a huge task on its hands, sadly being the final season of the Big Bang Theory prequel to ever air. In the meantime, there are plenty of loose ends that need tying up.
So far, the Cooper family has successfully bounced back from the Medford tornado, with Sheldon and Mary returning home from Germany to find a household that’s running to perfection.
However, Young Sheldon Season 7’s latest episode has just changed an iconic story from TBBT for good, completely shifting what fans had believed to be true. Warning – spoilers ahead!
Young Sheldon just changed Big Bang Theory’s “three knocks” origin
Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4 has revealed that George never actually cheated on Mary, meaning Sheldon’s “three knocks” childhood tale has completely changed.
Back in The Big Bang Theory, adult Sheldon was known for always knocking on a door three times before he entered a room. He told his friends that this stemmed back to his childhood, after once walking in on his dad and another woman when he was a teenager. It was here that the “three knocks” legend began, alongside the ongoing speculation over George’s mystery woman.
Up until Season 7, George’s affair had never been properly addressed. In Season 5, it was rumored that George was engaging in questionable behavior with neighbor Brenda – but aside from Meemaw trying to undermine George’s character, nothing ever came of the speculation.

However, Episode 4 has now changed all of this, revisiting the tale’s origins after Sheldon and Mary return to Medford. After their German excursion, Mary brings back an Oktoberfest outfit to surprise George with, complete with a blonde wig. Wearing it for him, Sheldon walks in on George and “Helga,” Mary’s made-up character.
“Unless it’s a red herring, right now Mary and George’s relationship is at an all-time high, the best it’s been during the whole show IMO, so I think it’s gonna be borderline impossible to pull off an affair arc without absolutely assassinating George’s character,” one fan posted on Reddit.
Another added, “I’m convinced Sheldon in TBBT doesn’t properly remember his childhood. Even in TBBT, Georgie had to “correct the record” on what actually happened and how sheltered Sheldon was as they avoided telling him things just to protect him. That, to me at least, says that Sheldon has “his” version of what happened.”
It remains unconfirmed how Young Sheldon will handle the upcoming death of George, although it is confirmed to be in the series in some way.
Young Sheldon Season 7 continues on CBS until May 16, 2024. Catch up with plenty more great TV shows to stream here.
