Just because Young Sheldon has small-town drama doesn’t mean anything less, with fans now “mad” over one “selfish” character arc.
The fictional town of Medford is a hotbed for gossip in Young Sheldon, with most of that somehow revolving around the Cooper family. So far in Season 7, that’s largely been comprised of the tornado aftermath and Sheldon’s move to Germany.
Plenty of plot points are still left to be explored in the remaining episodes, including George’s alleged affair – that we might see sooner than we think – and his impending death.
Though these are all storylines yet to come, one current character arc has left Young Sheldon fans “mad,” deeming it as “selfish.”
Young Sheldon fans “mad” over “selfish” character arc
Young Sheldon fans have been left stewing over Missy Cooper’s “selfish” character arc, who is largely considered to be one of the most overlooked Coopers on the show.
In Episodes 1 and 2 of Young Sheldon Season 7, it seemed as though Missy was on track for a brighter future. Seasons 5 and 6 saw Missy feeling overlooked by her parents in favor of Sheldon, ultimately lashing out in the form of stealing a truck to drive to Florida. In recent episodes, Missy is taking care of house and home in Mary’s absence, restoring family order after the tornado.
However, this quickly changes in Episode 3, in which Missy is seen lying to George about her new friend, Taylor. Assuming that Taylor is a girl, George has no issue with Missy being their friend, but it’s later revealed that she’s lying and sneaking off to be with her new boyfriend.

“I’m currently rewatching and I’ve been reading a lot of opinions on Missy and how she is selfish and what she does is not normal teenager stuff, and she should be aware that everyone loves her, but come on, if her family constantly sided with Sheldon and he got everything he wanted all the time, her mom didn’t even try to ask her side of the story when they got in a fight,” one fan posted on Reddit.
“Obviously, she is not gonna feel that she fits in the family or that someone wants her there, maybe they love her, but knowing that and feeling that are completely different things, and is not normal teenager stuff cause she isn’t normal,” the post continues. “How many of you have a twin that seems to be better in everything that is important for the world, she probably has a lot of feelings about how she should be better, and that mixed with the feeling no one cares about her turns into all she does.”
A second fan weighed in: “Every time an episode focuses on Missy, I get mad at the family. I swear I should not be taking a show this seriously.”
“I agree with a lot of this, but her believing her parents want nothing to do with her is a bit hypocritical. Literally throughout the entire show when her parents tried to hang out with her or do something for her she rejected them, told them they were being weird, or was incredibly embarrassed,” a third mused.
