Sheldon and Mary are back from Germany, and the Cooper family drama has only just begun. Here’s everything that went down in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4.
It’s tough to be a teenager – and it’s even more difficult when you’re on the other side of the world to half of your family. So far, Young Sheldon Season 7 has tested Sheldon and Mary’s relationship, whilst also forcing Missy to step up in their absence.
Things aren’t so great for the adults either, with Meemaw losing her house and everything she owns to the Medford tornado. She’s currently taken up residence with boyfriend Dale, which isn’t as smooth sailing as she might have hoped.
With all of the Cooper family now back on Medford soil, here’s the full debrief on what happened in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4. Obviously, spoilers ahead.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4: Sheldon battles his first roommate
The biggest news for the Cooper family is that Sheldon and Mary are finally home from their educational sojourn in Germany. After a hellish journey home comprised of four connecting flights and many screaming children, all is well until Sheldon realizes Mandy, Georgie, and baby Cece are unwilling to move back out of Sheldon’s bedroom. That leaves the garage and sofa as possible sleeping options, with Sheldon phoning Meemaw in the middle of the night when neither of these is preferred.
After Meemaw doesn’t let him stay at Dale’s, Sheldon heads back to his college dorm room – only to be greeted by another student who’s been crashing there. Sheldon immediately questions the unknown student, who claims it’s his room instead. The two bicker for a while before bonding over an unreleased video game, with Sheldon deciding that maybe he can tolerate having a roommate after all.
Mary feels displaced at home
It’s not just Sheldon who faces challenges after his return in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4, as Mary also feels like a stranger in her own home. On her first morning back, she sleeps in, waking up to find breakfast has already been made for her. With her children getting on with their assigned chores – thanks to Missy’s chore and bathroom schedule – Mary feels as though she has nothing to do in her own home, with Meemaw not taking pity when she reminds Mary she’s lost her entire house.
Looking for something to do, Mary decides to visit George while coaching at work. Bringing snacks for the entire team, she tries to become a “team mom,” catering for them while getting involved with their practice drills. When George tells Mary that practice is something to be endured rather than enjoyed, he suggests it might be better if a “team mom” didn’t actually exist.

Taylor breaks up with Missy
After her rebellious streak of lying to George about Taylor in Episode 3, Missy seems like she’s back on track to being mini-Mary in Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 4. By the time Mary walks in the door, Missy is running a tight ship – doing laundry, shouting at her siblings for not adhering to the bathroom rota, and making Mary breakfast before she’s even awake.
However, all of this comes crashing down when Missy comes home crying one evening, refusing to even talk to Mary. When Mary hears Missy crying in her bedroom, Missy reveals that her first boyfriend, Taylor, has broken up with her. While Missy is thrilled to have her mother back, Mary is finally relieved to mean something again to her family.
George’s “affair” is finally solved
It’s a huge surprise that one of the most iconic Big Bang Theory stories is finally addressed in this episode – although some fans got the hint from the promo alone. It stems back to Sheldon’s three knocks, which he explains in the main show he adopted to “give people time to get their pants on.” He claims to have seen George having an affair with another woman when he was a teenager, with many fans assuming that this was Brenda from rumors in earlier seasons.
However, Sheldon actually had the wrong end of the stick. After coming back from Germany, Mary claims to have a surprise for George – which is an Oktoberfest dirndl complete with a blonde wig. Putting it on for him in the bedroom, Sheldon walks in on George and “Helga” getting up to no good. He might have wanted therapy, but this does mean Sheldon had completely the wrong idea about his dad for years.
