A Twitch streamer’s daughter was left so devastated that she ‘burst into tears’ after finding out Nintendo had discontinued online features in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
American video game journalist and Twitch streamer Jeff Gerstmann shared that his 3-year-old daughter was left devastated after finding out Nintendo had discontinued its online game features in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
This is something Nintendo has done across all their games on both the 3DS and WiiU, and, while titles on these consoles are still playable, many of them are now missing elements that were an essential part of the gameplay experience.
Gerstmann shared that his daughter was confused by Nintendo shutting down the Animal Crossing: New Leaf servers and making the Dream Suite unusable.
For those unfamiliar, the Dream Suite lets players explore other people’s towns to see what they’ve created. Animal Crossing is all about making your own little village, and seeing other players’ creations is something Gerstmann’s daughter seemed to enjoy. But it’s also a feature she now has no way to access.
He explained that his daughter wasn’t able to read yet, so she had to enlist his help when she encountered a message preventing her from “dreaming”.

“On the bottom screen is an error message that says ‘This service has been concluded, thank you for your understanding,'” Gerstmann recounted.
This forced him to explain to his daughter that the Dream Suite had been permanently removed and that she would be unable to use it; “Basically I told her that she was not going to be able to do that anymore and she burst into f****** tears.”
“And I’m like God-damn, sh**. F****** Nintendo,” Gerstmann said. This wasn’t a one-off ordeal, either. His daughter was still affected by it hours later.
“At about 7 o’clock or so, she starts crying. Like, a lot,” Gerstmann recalled. “I’m thinking, ‘Oh, she has to go to the bathroom’, maybe she needs something… ‘I just remembered about the dreams again.’ And I was like, f***, I was so pissed at Nintendo in that moment.”
