Evil Geniuses lifted the Champions trophy in 2023.
Valorant Champions 2023 has come to a close, with Evil Geniuses keeping the trophy in the Americas region after beating Paper Rex. Here you can find everything about the third world championship in Valorant history, including a recap, the standings and all the scores.
After three action-packed weeks in Los Angeles, Valorant Champions 2023 is over. In front of a packed Kia Forum crowd, Evil Geniuses beat Paper Rex 3-1 in the grand final, winning North America’s first international title since VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavík. They also keep the trophy in the Americas following LOUD’s win in Istanbul last year.

What happened to Evil Geniuses in 2023 is nothing short of a Cinderella story. The team began the season in woeful form and became the target of ridicule. Amid rumors that Evil Geniuses were considering replacing head coach Christine ‘potter’ Chi, Max ‘Demon1’ Mazanov was brought into the starting lineup, and their fortunes began to turn.
“It feels pretty good,” potter said after the match when asked about Evil Geniuses’ rollercoaster of a season.
After barely qualifying for the VCT Americas playoffs, Evil Geniuses placed second at VCT Masters Tokyo in what was only the team’s second international appearance. Then EG hit another level in Los Angeles, where they took the scalps of EDward Gaming, DRX, and LOUD in the playoffs before exacting revenge on Paper Rex in a grand final where they were in control for the majority of the series.

But is this the start of an Evil Geniuses era? “Absolutely,” Kelden ‘Boostio’ Pupello said. “Absolutely.”
Valorant Champions 2023 marks the end of the first year of the partnered league format. The tournament had a record $2.25 million prize pool – more than double that of last year’s world championship.

Valorant Champions 2023: Teams and rosters
Twelve of the 16 slots for Valorant Champions came from the EMEA, Americas and Pacific leagues. The top three teams from the international leagues qualified for both VCT Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions 2023, with each region also hosting a last-chance qualifier that qualified an additional team for Los Angeles.
Chinese teams competed in the Champions CN Qualifiers to find the top three squads to represent the region at the world championship. The final slot was allocated to EMEA as the winning region of VCT Masters Tokyo.
