Excitement has been growing for Riot Games’ Valorant FPS – previously codenamed “Project A” – and, on March 1, Rod ‘Slasher’ Breslau revealed some gameplay screenshots apparently posted ahead of time by IGN.
Details for Valorant are few and far between, with Riot Games’ intentionally drip-feeding information in order to maximize anticipation. We know that the game will be coming exclusively to PC, and that it will be a self-appointed ‘Tactical FPS’.
Countless games, like CS:GO, Rainbow Six Siege and Escape from Tarkov also fit under the ‘tactical FPS’ banner. However, Valorant is “set on a beautiful near-future earth and has a lethal cast of characters, each with their own unique abilities,” akin to Overwatch. While fan excitement was already high, new screenshots might just send it into overdrive. On March 1, Rod ‘Slasher‘ Breslau shared some early gameplay screenshots to Twitter, after they were allegedly posted by IGN accidentally.
“IGN has just accidentally revealed several screenshots from Riot’s shooter Valorant (Project Ares),” he said, “including several of the characters and maps for what looks like to be an embargoed hands-on play test by journalists.”

Slasher followed this up with another set of four screenshots, seemingly from the same IGN source. He likened one of the screenshots to ‘Mirage’, the famous CS:GO map.

Many fans replying to the screenshots likened the game’s graphics to those of Overwatch; Activision Blizzard’s arcade FPS which launched back in 2016. Both games have futuristic sci-fi elements incorporated.

There were mixed responses to the screenshots. Some fans argued the game looks poor, with one even comparing it to a “mobile game” in its quality.
Others, however, appear to have grown even more excitement at the leaked screenshots: “This is going to be amazing isn’t it?” one fan wrote.
Valorant does not have a set release date yet, but is expected to drop in the latter stage of 2020, with a beta possibly coming sooner.
