Twitch superstar Asmongold has revealed he believes World of Warcraft’s upcoming 2020 expansion Shadowlands could be the “greatest ever,” especially when it comes to breathing new life into Blizzard’s long-standing MMORPG.
Since Asmongold ended his streaming hiatus, the WoW star has been more open about his thoughts on Blizzard’s directions in their flagship MMORPG. Last month he warned Burning Crusade could “alienate” Classic fans.
This month, the streamer has been grinding the Shadowlands ‘expac’ alpha, which will likely see a full release in late 2020. According to Asmongold, you won’t want to miss it — as it may just be the “greatest expansion ever.”
It’s high praise, especially this far into the title’s lifespan. With hugely-popular expansions like Wrath of the Lich King and Legion in the books, it also seems like a near-impossible task, but Asmongold believes Blizzard are on the right path.
In particular, the WoW star said he was “really, really impressed” with the feedback Blizzard had taken on board from BFA. From aiming to make players “feel powerful” again, to leveling fixes, Asmongold said it’s “looking good.”
“It looks so much better than BFA looked at this stage [alpha], and… even better than Legion. Honestly! Better than Warlords [of Draenor] too. I’m really excited to see what they’re going to do going forward,” the streamer admitted.
According to Asmongold, who spoke at length about his Shadowlands alpha experience in a video shared on YouTube, the main reason he’s feeling so positive about the impending drop is because it seems like “Blizzard are trying to be better.”

“What they’re doing with Shadowlands makes me feel more inspired, honestly. Now that I’ve played the alpha… overall my excitement is pretty high. It might be the best ever, but Blizzard is taking steps to make the game better,” he said.
“I see how many interviews they’re doing, how open they’re being on Twitter. It feels like they are making the development process for Shadowlands a cooperative process now. I think it will make the expansion one of the best.”

He did add there were a few “missed moments” from the devs too though. In particular, he admitted he “wasn’t a fan” of Sylvanas killing the Lich King in a Shadowlands cinematic. It should have been more personal, he explained.
“If using Sylvanas as a plot device is what we have to do, it is what it is,” he said. “Instead, I would have preferred if N’Zoth won… and killed us all. That could be why we’re in the Shadowlands. That would have been f**king awesome.”
