In World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, Shaman is arguably one of the classes that is the most starkly different from its original version in Classic WoW. Despite that, more changes could be on the way, and they should please many who play the class.
The Rune Engraving system did a lot to alter how classes approach different activities in the game. It augmented players with entirely new abilities and powers, including some that the class wouldn’t see until multiple expansions after the Vanilla game.
Shaman has changed so significantly, in fact, that it is now able to operate as an impressively competent Tank. That said, not everyone is happy with the way the class is setup, with the argument centering around the necessity to use Rockbiter with Shamanistic Rage to remain competitive.
Now, one of the most senior developers behind the game has confirmed that they are looking at the class and may make changes moving forward.
WoW dev “thinking” about ways to alter Shaman in Season of Discovery
One Shaman player took to social media to complain about the fact that Rockbiter and Shamanistic Rage are so important, that it’s difficult to remain competitive in a fight. In a response to this post on Twitter/X asking about the problem, Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield had this to say.

Responses to the post offered further possible solutions to the problem. One said: “You could simply have it restore 12.5% mana a second over 12 seconds or something so the return is equal for all specs and will easily scale.”
Others felt as though the player was making an issue out of relatively little. One said: “Why is that something you’re thinking about. Just swap weapons in combat. It’s actually quite interactive and i like that Shaman has a lot of unique aspects that they can use to gain an edge. If you want to do anything about Rockbiter I urge you to make it a longer buff.”
The specifics of the potential changes are not yet known but they will likely provide mana regen from other sources, or increase damage elsewhere to make abandoning one of Rockbiter and Shamanistic Rage worthwhile.
