Twitch star Tyler ‘Ninja‘ Blevins and Team Vitality‘s Corentin ‘Gotaga‘ Houssein bet a whopping $19,000 on a rock, paper, scissors match on June 10 – and Ninja prevailed.
Ninja has proven he’s great at a lot of things, but rock, paper, scissors is something people never thought they’d see on his list of achievements.
During a Fortnite charity livestream for Alzheimers Research, Ninja, Gotaga, ‘BrokyBrawks’ and FaZe Jarvis played to one rule: whoever gets the least kills has to pay a certain amount to the charity depending on how many kills everyone got. For example, the first game had a $5 wager, meaning that if there were five kills overall, the player with the least kills would pay $25.
The tiers were $5, $10, $50, $100, and $1,000, and increased per game.
The $19,000 charity pool
By round five, $1,000 per kill was at stake, and FaZe Jarvis lead the way with 15 kills, meaning he’d racked up a whopping $15,000 payout. Ninja and Gotaga ended the match with two kills each, meaning the grand total to be paid at the end of game five was $19,000.
Because the pair tied by getting two kills each, they settled who would pay the massive chunk of money with a traditional game of rock, paper, scissors. Ninja won the round with rock against scissors, leaving Gotaga to pay out the whopping $19,000.

“And the curse continues for gotaga. $19,000 on the Shifumi against Ninja,” gotaga tweeted sadly upon his loss. Ninja was ecstatic with the win however, tweeting, “Just beat @Gotaga in a $19,000 game of rock paper scissors for alzheimers research.”

Rock, paper, scissors is apparently really popular in esports
Esports production company Beyond The Summit had an official rock, paper, scissors tournament for their Mortal Kombat 11 Summit of Time event back in May, and broadcasted it to Twitch.
You wouldn’t think a RPS event would get much hype, but it ended up being really tense, with people becoming avid fans of the game as its own sport.
RPS as an event has become so popular that Beyond the Summit are bringing it back for the Summit 8 Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament on June 13 – 16.
