An Overwatch player has created a “Mech Wars” game mode in the Workshop that gives every player D.Va’s “de-meched” mechanic.
The Workshop opens up a whole new realm of custom game modes, with players now having the ability to alter the fundamental rules of Overwatch to develop modes that would never have been possible in the standard custom game creator.
Prolific Workshop creator Darwin has now created a Workshop mode in which every character gets to experience the “second chance” that D.Va has after her mech is destroyed.
The mode was inspired by a suggestion from Houston Outlaws player Jacob ‘Jake’ Lyon, and now one of the Workshop’s most accomplished creators has obliged with a working game mode.
Imagine a workshop mode where every hero has a ‘baby dva’ that jumps out after they die (and can re-suit into their original character)

In Mech Wars, every single hero gets the “de-meched” mechanic that D.Va has. Players start as their hero of choice, but when they get knocked down to 1hp they’re thrown into the air as Tracer, acting in place of the “baby D.Va”, and can fight to reclaim their original character by generating ultimate charge.
While acting as the “baby D.Va”, Tracer doesn’t have access to her abilities, in the same way that D.Va herself must rely only on her weapon to fill her ultimate meter and reclaim her mech.

Darwin is also responsible for a variety of other popular workshop modes, including practice modes for Ana and Reinhardt, as well as fun modes like D.Va racing and Overwatch Pictionary.
Now that the Workshop is available on the live servers, players on all platforms can experience these modes by importing them, or try their hand at creating their own unique modes.
The Workshop isn’t the only major new feature to have arrived in Overwatch recently, with Blizzard also unveiling the Replays system, which is currently in testing on the Public Test Realm. Jeff Kaplan has also hinted at changes coming to the standard, predictable summer content schedule.
With such a massive influx of major new features and perhaps other new content, there’s never been a more exciting time for Overwatch players.
