An Overwatch player has created a Workshop mode that gives Pharah Half Life 2-style steerable rockets.
The Workshop is a scripting tool that gives Overwatch players a huge amount of control when creating new custom games, enabling them to develop modes that bend even the most fundamental rules of the standard game.
DarwinStreams has been responsible for some of the most popular Overwatch Workshop modes so far, producing everything from useful practice modes for Ana and Reinhardt, to fun modes like “Torbjörnball 2k19” and Overwatch Pictionary. His “D.Va Racing” mode is also one of the top 10 most popular so far, according to Blizzard.
In addition to making entire new game modes, Darwin has also produced Workshop modes designed to offer a particular mechanic, either for players or fellow Workshop creators to make use of.
Darwin’s newest offering is a mode in which Pharah’s rockets are “steerable” after they’ve been fired, continuing to follow the player’s aim until they impact with something. This means they can be curved around walls and obstacles, or adjusted when a target changes direction.
Those that wish to try out the mode can do so with share code MQEXV.

While Pharah duels with steerable rockets might be interesting in their own right, the real benefit of this mode is likely to be for people looking to create their own games. Thanks to Darwin, anyone who wants to develop a game type that uses steerable rockets like this won’t have to figure out how to make the projectiles work properly.
This isn’t the first mode Darwin has created with some unusual rocket mechanics, previously producing a mode with homing missiles that locked onto and followed their targets – which when combined with a jetpack-using Torbjörn made for an epic free-for-all mode.
With the arrival of the Workshop and the upcoming release of the new Replays system, which is currently in testing on the Public Test Realm (PTR), Overwatch players have more options than ever for expressing their own creativity through the game and playing the way they want to.
